John Williamson
fl. 1885-1896 Edinburgh painter in oil of portraits and figure subjects, also illustrator. Specialised in costume subjects, working in Edinburgh 1885-1890 and in London from 1893. Illustrated Reeds Kilgonan (1894), Crawford's Wild Life in Scotland (1896) and the same author's Wild Flowers of Scotland (1897); contributed to The English Illustrated Magazine (1895-1896). Refined delineation, accurate detail and considerable sensitivity, somewhat in the manner of Kenneth Macleay. Exhibited at the RA (4), RSA (11) & RBA (1). These prints are taken from the original watercolours for the Players Cigarette Card series Clans of Scotland, printed in 19. Many of the originals are in our possession but these are the only eight prints available. 6 x 8 inches |
