Margery Fraser (1758-1851) was the daughter of Simon Fraser of Ness Castle and married Alexander Fraser, 16th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy, in 1781.  They had five children together before he died at the age of 35.  She lived until she was nearly 100 years old.  According to the Christian Watt papers, the plate on her coffin recorded her age as 92.  However, her son, Lt General Alexander Fraser, 17th Lord Saltoun, when examining the coffin the day before the funeral, remarked “92! I have reason to believe, from papers I have seen since her death, that my mother was at least five years older than that”.  When it was suggested that the plate might be amended, he replied “No, it doesn’t matter, 92 is old enough”.
