Died Folkestone, Jan 30. Son of John H Wilson with whom he is often confused. Studied under his father and painted in a very similar style. Began as a landscape artist but became increasingly interested in marines. Generally his work is bright and attractive although lacking the finer touch of his father's work. His early pictures often depicted farmyard scenes with cattle. Exhibited over 500 works in London between 1831 and 1875, including Royal Academy (55), also at the Royal Scottish Academy (3) and Glasgow Institute (3). His work is represented in Sheffield Art Gallery.
