Born London; died Edinburgh 5 June. Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes. Son of Arthur Perigal. Came with his father to Edinburgh c1830. Studying under his father otherwise self-taught but soon established a reputation in both oil and watercolour. Influenced by Horatio McCulloch and to a lesses degree by the pre-Raphaelites. With the exception of some views in Switzerland and italy his landscapes were entirely of Scottish scenery, created in a crisp, breezy manner often verging on hardness but always bold and firm in handling. His diploma picture was of a moorland, near Kinlochewe. Some of his watercolours painted in Italy in the early 1840s show a lightness of touch missing in his later work. His views of the fishing villages of the east coast have historical interest not always appreciated. Represented NGS, Dundee AG, Glasgow AG, Paisley AG, City of Edinburgh collection, Brodie Castle.

Elected ARSA 1841 (when he was only 25), RSA 1868, Treasurer RSA 1880 until his death in 1884.
