Born Ayr. Painter in oil and watercolour, mainly the latter, and stained glass designer; landscapes and figure subjects. Brother of Margaret Isabel Wright. Educated Ayr Academy. Inspired in watercolour at an early age by instruction received from James McMaster. Pursued further studies at Glasgow School of Art and after graduating took up a position as cartoonist to Stephen Adam, then one of the leading stained glass artists in Glasgow. This interest in stained glass design remained with him for the rest of his life co-existing with his work as a painter in various media. His landscapes were generally breezy coastal views in bright, vibrant colours with exuberant brush work. Also worked in France.
Elected RSW 1920. Some of his best glass work can be seen at Kilbarchan, Culross and Pittenweem. Subsequently elected Vice President RSW. Lived latterly at Garelochhead, Dumbartonshire. Exhibited RA (3), RSA (36), RSW (82), AAS (2), GI (57) and L (5). Represented in Glasgow AG (2), Edinburgh City collection.
