A Scottish Soldier of the Highland Division

Born Dundee. Painter in oil and watercolour, etcher, teacher; portraits, landscapes and genre. Studied Dundee College of Art 1931-35, in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Art 1937 and Westminster School of Art 1939. Studied under J McIntosh Patrick. Taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. His talent as a designer brought wide recognition, commissions, including murals for the Glasgow Empire Exhibition of 1938, the Overgate shopping precinct in Dundee, and the Aviemore recreation centre. Painted a number of notable portraits, as well as landscapes, continental scenes, some abstract works and a number of large decorative murals. During WW2 he served as an officer in the 51st Highland Division in North Africa, Sicily and north-west Europe. 
Exhibited RA (3), RSA (46), RSW (1) and GI (1) 1936-1973, first of all mainly portraits and after the war mostly continental scenery. Represented in Glasgow AG and the Imperial War Museum.
