Little is known of the artist J S Andrews although we do know that he was an American.

These four panels are extremely large - nine feet long - and were made originally for a gentleman outfitter's shop in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. They depict various moments in the escapades of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745-46, and being a narrative of events they are sold as a set.

They were probably painted in the 1950s and once the shop closed the panels remained in storage for 40 years or so. Their condition is excellent having undergone a face wash and minor restoration.
