Dick was born in Venlo, The Netherlands, in 1954. He began painting at the age of 10. His early interest was in Old Master restoration and research in to paint pigments. However, his passion for painting dominated and he became a full-time artist in 1980, first in the surrealistic tradition and then turning to still life and landscape. A visit to Tanzania in 1989 inspired a complete change of direction since when he has specialised in African landscape and its indigenous fauna. In addition to many exhibitions in his own country he shows regularly in Belgium, France, Germany and England.

He was commissioned to paint a series of 30 pictures for the Royal Family of Oman.
